Back acne can be sore, unsightly and an embarrassing illness for both men and women. It is something that will need your attention if you do not want it to became annoying and cause further discomfort.

There are some basic steps that you can take to treat pimples on your back but first we need to understand what causes back acne. Two main causes are hormone imbalance and toxins.

Hormone imbalance
Back acne also known as bacne is caused by overactive sebaceous glands on the back. It appears most commonly during puberty and can last into one's adult years.

Hormone imbalances can be caused by:
  • sex hormones, such as progesterones, oestrogens and testosterone
  • Insulin hormones
  • chemical substances that are produced by the body during times of illness and stress.

Hormonal changes can stimulate oil production in the skin that is prone to dilated pores and acne occurrence. Inflamed or irritated pores contribute to the formation of whiteheads or blackheads that turn into pimples.

Toxins
Unhealthy foods made up of chemical substances, preservatives and other additives build up toxins in the body. When the body is consumed with such chemicals it can react and toxins can surface on the skin and appear on different parts of one's body such as your back. Foods with excess levels of insulin in the bloodstream trigger a hormonal cascade and increase androgens levels in your body that can lead to the growth of pore-clogging cells and overactive oil gland activity. It is best to make some dietary changes and substitute unhealthy foods with a low glycemic diet which includes fruit, grains, beans and vegetables to deal with back acne.

Increasing water intake is another way to keep skin hydrated and get rid of internal toxins.
